Aasiya lived in the greater Bay Area for most of her life before attending the University of California, UCLA, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. Upon returning, she assumed graduate studies in psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy at Pepperdine University with the intention to learn how to support Muslim mental health, particularly for reverts. She has experience working with nonprofits dedicated to offering affordable student housing on outreach and fundraising efforts, specifically assisting in navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic. With a background working in a level-1 trauma center emergency department, she is tuned into psychological preventative health and the spiritual nature of healthcare provision. Aasiya is passionate about complex trauma research, emergency medicine, and mobilizing to bring treatments to marginalized populations. She aspires to eventually serve victims of human trafficking and drug-abuse with an Islamic therapeutic framework. Outside of her professional pursuits, Aasiya finds joy in hiking, reading, astronomy, spending time with her two cats and family, and discovering new local coffee spots.
